Appetizer Skewers

These cute skewers are perfect for any summer picnic or BBQ, or if you need a quick, simple, and tasty appetizer for a party! They are completely customizable depending on what types of fruit, cheese, vegetables, etc. you want to put on them and/or what is in season, so get creative with different combinations! If you have kids who are eager to help out in the kitchen then these are the perfect easy thing for them to help make (be careful with the pointy skewers though - you may want to chop off the point!).

The fruit skewers are a great alternative to a fruit platter or fruit salad! I made them using strawberries, watermelon, red grapes, and cantaloupe. I used a melon baller to scoop out spheres of watermelon and cantaloupe for some visual appeal!

These skewers were actually my mom's idea (hence the sausage chunks hehe), and they make great little portable snacks! They had a slice of garlic sausage, a cube of cheddar cheese (note: don't use marble cheese as it crumbles apart easily when you poke a skewer through it), a grape tomato, and a mini dill pickle. For all my fellow vegetarians, you can totally substitute the sausage with another vegetable (such as olive, pickled onion, bell pepper), another type of cheese, a cube of tofu, tempeh, or even an imitation deli meat or sausage.
